In dry climates like Colorado, skin sheds faster and dry patches absorb color unpredictably. Proper hydration and surface prep are key to an even glow.
24–48 Hours Before:
Hydrate from Within: Start drinking extra water 24 to 48 hours prior. Dehydrated skin absorbs tanning solution too deeply, causing uneven patches.
Shave & Wax Early: Complete shaving, waxing, manicures, and pedicures at least 24 hours before. Cold, dry air keeps pores open longer—shaving right before causes dark dots ("strawberry legs").
Gentle Exfoliation: Exfoliate 12–24 hours before using an oil-free scrub or exfoliating mitt. Focus on "high-friction" dry zones: knuckles, elbows, knees, ankles, and heels.
Day of Appointment:
Shower Early: Shower at least 4 hours prior to stabilize skin pH. Avoid hot water right before your appointment, as it dries out the skin barrier.
Arrive Bare & Clean: Skin must be 100% free of lotions, heavy cream, oils, makeup, deodorant, perfume, or body sprays.
Wear Loose Clothing: Wear dark, loose clothing (sweatpants, loose long-sleeve tee, or maxi dress) and flip-flops. Avoid tight leggings, socks, or sports bras.

Dry air speeds up moisture loss. Protecting your skin barrier after your tan is what keeps it from cracking or fading prematurely.
1. Initial Rinse (Crucial Timing)- Rinse at your technician’s exact recommended time below:
Fiji Express / Espresso Rapid- 2 to 3 Hours
Tahitian Medium / Lava Dark- 8 Hours
How to Rinse: Lukewarm water ONLY. Do not use soap, body wash, shampoos, or loofahs during this first rinse.
Guide Color: You will see the cosmetic bronzer rinse down the drain—this is normal! Your tan continues developing over the next 24 hours.
Drying: Gently pat dry with a towel. Never rub.
2. Mountain & Dry Climate Aftercare Rules
The 24-Hour Hydration Rule: Wait until 24 hours after your tan before applying your first lotion. After 24 hours, moisturizing twice daily is non-negotiable in high-altitude environments to prevent the tan from cracking.
Moisturize Twice Daily: Use a spray-tan-safe, oil-free moisturizer (such as South Seas Monoi de Tahiti Body Lotion or Mooreia Body Butter).
Avoid Hot Tubs & Long Baths: Hot water and high chlorine content in pools/hot tubs will bleach and strip your tan fast in low-humidity air.
Skip Harsh Soaps: Use sulfate-free gel cleansers. Avoid bar soaps (like Dove) which leave a drying residue on high-altitude skin.
Layer SPF Daily: UV rays are significantly stronger at higher elevations. Always apply a non-greasy, spray-tan-safe broad-spectrum sunscreen over your tan before going outdoors.
